After you have spent almost all of your money on website creation, digitizing or recreating logos. Paying a copywriter for you’re content and so on. Do you have anything left in your budget for effective search engine marketing and if you do, how much?
There are a lot of players ( I use the word loosely ) in today's SEO market that are just waiting to grab a handful of cash from small to large business with promises of being number one, two or three in the search engine results game. Just like any other industry there are people and companies out to make a quick buck on anyone who will part with the money. Rule Number One: Effective Search Engine Marketing - Takes Time! From three months to a year!
Most companies really do not know what to ask for much less what to look for in setting up a effective search engine marketing program for themselves. A little research on your favorite search engine should help some, but how do you really really know if you can trust what the search engine optimization consultant tells you.
First of all download the Google Toolbar and install it on your Microsoft Explorer Web browser. The Google Toolbar is of course only for Microsoft Windows based machines. If you have a Apple Mac computer system then you can download a program called Konfabulator, and also download the appropriate widget (program module) for the Page Rank icon for your desktop. Note: Konfabulator is not free but reasonably inexpensive.
Now, back to finding a reputable SEO consultant. You man want to search for the following terms:
1. Effective Search Engine Marketing
2. SEO service
3. Search Engine Optimization or Optimizer
4. High Rankings for search engines
..you get the idea.
As you are clicking on these links to a potential SEO Company notice their page rank in your google tool bar or on the Mac's Konfabulator icon and see what that companies page rank is valued at currently. If it's less than a rank of six (6) I would stay away from them and keep looking. After all if they cannot get good ranking for themselves how do you expect them to get results for you?
What you are really looking for in a SEO company is for them to be like your talent agent like movie stars and musicians have working for them on a daily basis. The SEO consultant researches your industry and your competitors, figures out what the best keywords are for your product and or service. Then he or she starts a laser focused campaign on your keywords and placing you in the highest and best position possible in Google, Yahoo!, MSN Search, AOL search, and DMOZ.
A little back tracking here. If you have already have your content for your website written then you may have to do some re-writes for keyword text anchor focusing. So if you read this before hand, you have saved a bundle with your copywriter.
If you are going to do it yourself and try and save more money due to budget restraints, then you will need to keep reading the future posts on how to get where you need to be in the SERP's game.
Before you contact anyone start compiling notes on your competitors web sites and see what they are doing to get noticed on the World Wide Web. Note their page rank values and write them down or make up a spreadsheet matrix on their PR value, keywords, and content... You do not want to copy their content but you want to know what you are up against. A good practice is to print out the web site that want to compete with and make notes on the printed sheets and keep a folder of them for you and future SEO consulting service companies.
